The real reason for success at the Winter Olympics

I have a theory about the winter olympics - it appears the more red you have in your country's flag, the more chance you have of winning medals. Of course there are exceptions to the rule like Sweden, but take a look at the current medal tally.

Further support for my theory is do you remember the dominance of the winter olympics by the USSR in the 1980s. Do you remember their flag - that's right, virtually all red and they were number one. And Russia's flag in 2010 - that's right only a third red and they are number ten.

I haven't quite worked out the link yet, as to why red in a flag would make a country peform better, but I have no doubt it's there.

What do you think?

I learned at uni that sporting teams who wear red win more often than other colours. Red is a more aggressive colour. So there you go.

It stands out well against the white of the snow. Certainly an advantage in the fog for aerial skiing.
