The New South Wales Parliament is currently being asked to pass a law that allows for the destruction of intentionally created human embryos. Why has so much attention been given to a few odd comments made by the Catholic Archbishop (“Catholic MPs to defy Pell over bill”, June 6) and to the hackneyed debate over church and state, while so little attention has been given to the actual issue? Perhaps even Pell himself would be happy to be ignored as long as the issues were being discussed.
