Non-slip slippery dips

To follow up on a post from a few days ago about children's playgrounds, we recently took a holiday to Hong Kong. It really is a great place, easy to get around, cheap to get to and to be in, but it can at times get a bit hot, well humid in fact.

On one day we went to a children's playground for our almost two year old to play around in and as he got to the top of the slippery dip and tried to slide down, there was no slip left. It was so humid that both him and the slippery dip stuck together. It was a non-slip slippery dip. Almost like a "shuffle-dip" which is how he managed to get down it.

Adult playgrounds?

Why are there only children's playgrounds? I mean, why are there not adult playgrounds. I am not talking about adult playgrounds in the way the word is used in adult bookstores or adult toys, but specifically places that you can go and swing, slide, climb, jump, fall and generally just have fun, preferably for free. It seems that unless you have kids yourself, and they are actually present, there is something socially unacceptable about adults playing on play equipment (even if there are no other children present).

Not sure why, but as I used to say "that's not fair".

Temperature hot or spicy hot

One thing I hate about the English language is that there are not separate words for temperature hot and spicy hot.

I really hate it when someone comments about some food they have just eaten and they say "Whoa, that's hot" and then someone else says "Do you mean temperature hot or spicy hot?". There should be separate words.

Any suggestions?

How does a toaster work?

I have had thousands of pieces of toast in my time but I have a fundamental question about toasters that hopefully someone will be able to answer for me -

Does the toast gauge when turned on 1 toast for a shorter period of time or is the filament less hot and conversely when the toast guage is on 5 does it toast for a longer period of time or is the filament somehow hotter?

I have often pondered this but by the time my thoughts get anywhere near to solving it the toast pops up, I butter it and away I go. But does anyone know the answer?
